The Minecraft World of Rossmore Castle

Time: 7-8pm

The grand, imposing structure that once overlooked the sloping hills of Rossmore Park has now been rebuilt to amazing detail using the Minecraft platform.

Monaghan County Museum, alongside the EA AmmA Centre in Armagh, will host a workshop where participants will explore the Rossmore Minecraft World. They will have the opportunity to tour a full 3D replica of Rossmore Castle, plant a pollinator garden in the Walled Gardens, locate the Drumlin Giants in The Giant’s Trail, combine chemicals in the Gas House, explore the hydraulic ram and dam and much more!

Children’s Museum of Puppets

Ahoy – Calling all budding artists and designers!

Model boats made by Jack B Yeats, salt water ballads and sea-faring adventure stories are the inspiration for this exciting new interactive installation for children, to be launched on Culture Night at The Model, Sligo.

One of the gallery spaces has been transformed into a high sea adventure and the call is out for all children to help transform this space into a pirate haven. Come in on Culture Night and design your own pirate puppet with a team of artists – and help make a colourful and vibrant museum of puppets.

If you would like to make a pirate puppet in advance to drop in on the day, you can follow the puppet-making video workshop at and there will be on open workshop on site.

This Culture Night, immerse yourself in our unique sporting heritage. Get ready to learn the spine-tingling story of Gaelic games, charted from ancient times to the present day in our GAA Museum at Croke Park, and the two floors of Gaelic Games exhibits and artefacts.

Get a chance to see the original Sam Maguire and Liam MacCarthy trophies, as well as footage of the greatest players of all time in action in the Hall of Fame. Allow our Museum to vividly bring to life the GAA’s contribution to our cultural, social, and sporting heritage.

Free the Birds

Time: 4-10pm

Free the Birds is an interactive art project led by Muhammad Achour (Places of ARcture) that features works created by young people under 15 from Syria, Tanzania, and Ireland. Over 4 weeks, live online origami workshops and coaching sessions led by artists Timi Tenczler and Julia Thomaschki will take place in art centres in Syria, Tanzania, and Liberty HQ in Tallaght.

The participants, many of whom have experienced a great deal of trauma throughout their lives, will be taught how to make origami birds. They will write messages on the birds, which are going fly all the way to Ireland to be exhibited on Culture Night. In expressing their wishes for the future, they will let go of old traumatic experiences by crafting the birds that will take them away, and carry their messages across the world. Join in to appreciate this international, collaborative effort.

Visit EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum

Come and see the most EPIC museum in Dublin this Culture Night! Winner of Europe’s Leading Tourist Attraction at the World Travel Awards 2019 and 2020, EPIC will take you past the stereotypes and examine how such a small island has made such a big impact on the world.

This interactive journey stretches across 20 galleries and takes you through space and time to learn why Irishness is celebrated across the world and about Irish history and culture, told from the perspective of those who lived it.

You will discover why people left, see how they influenced the world they arrived at, and experience the connection between their descendants & Ireland today. Immerse yourself in the stories of some of the most remarkable tales of sacrifice, endurance, adventure, and discovery the world has ever known.

Workshops at Shandon Art Studios

Shandon Art Studio invites adults and children to participate in free pottery workshops in a creative space and see some of the samples of art and craft work made by the artists.

The Studio will also be open for tours and will host a make your own hanging pottery decoration class. These decorations will be fired in the studio’s kiln and available for pick up at a later date.

The Misneach Mural

Time: 4-6pm

Misneach being the Irish word for ‘courage’, the people of Killorglin, County Kerry will be invited to engage with this inclusive piece of art.

Building a temporary outdoor public “Paint & Print” abstract mural, the aim is to provide a blank canvas for all members of the community to showcase their imagination and creativity. These 4 separate pieces will be hung on display at K-FEST (Killorglin Arts Festival).

Meet the Leaflings with Niamh Sharkey and Owen Churcher

Among the branches and roots of some of our planet’s most important inhabitants live the leaflings, the secret guardians of the trees. They live in trees all over the world, from giant redwoods in California to cherry blossoms in Japan. They can teach us a lot about the trees they protect and how special they are.

Get a sneaky behind the scenes look at how Niamh and Owen made their upcoming book, A Field Guide to Leaflings – find out where they get their ideas, peek inside Niamh’s sketch books, then participate in a fun drawing workshop!

Mother Tongues

Drop into Rua Red Arts Centre in Tallaght, a contemporary art space, which will temporarily host the touring Interactive Museum of Languages for Young Audiences. Since 2017, Mother Languages has promoted multilingualism in Ireland. Children can join the Mother Tongues team to play games and learn about the many cultures of Tallaght!

Through artwork, sculptures, and spaces, the exhibit creatively encourages children to interact with different letters and alphabets across languages. This fun, immersive experience promotes both creativity and linguistic/cultural diversity.

Do Fish Ever Get Seasick? – Ulysses for Kids

You’re never too young to be introduced to one of the greatest books ever written – and that’s exactly what the James Joyce Centre will do with Ulysses for Kids!

Through performance, song, and storytelling, the child characters in Joyce’s Ulysses are brought to life and elements at the heart of the book are explained – the importance of curiosity and learning to respect others; the trickiness of family relationships and love; and why everyone needs a place to call home.

This performance lasts around 50 minutes, and all ages are welcome.
