Culture Night 2020 takes place on Friday 18th September with free events taking place all around the country. We’ve picked out a selection of the family friendly events, here are Fantastic Free Family Events for Culture Night 2020:

National Museum of Ireland Natural History The Dead Zoo – Extinction! Live Online

Culture Night 2020

What kind of extinct animals can you find in the Dead Zoo? Join the education team at the Dead Zoo this Culture Night to discover stories about some of the extinct animals in the collection.

Time: 5.30pm to 5.50pm

Drive-In Movies with Clones Film Festival, Monaghan

Come along in your car for an evening of outdoor screenings at a soon-to-be-revealed location in Clones. A family screening of Disney/Pixar’s ‘Up’ starts at 7pm, suitable for all ages. ‘The Van’, an Irish classic suitable for viewers 15 and up, will kick off at at 9.30pm.

Times: 7pm – 8.30pm and 9.30pm – 11:15pm

Outdoor Concert with Percussionist Alex Petcu, Wicklow

Enjoy an evening at Russborough House and Parklands, Blessington, Co Wicklow with percussion sensation Alex Petcu, a regular performer with the RTE Concert and Symphony, Ulster and Irish Chamber Orchestras as well as with the Crash Ensemble.

Expect a fascinating programme for solo percussion on a variety of instruments – some you might know, others you might not! The concert will take place outdoors, so dress appropriately, and there will be a backup indoor option in the event of rain. Look for signposts on arrival to guide you to the exact concert location.

Time: 6.30pm – 7.30pm

This concert will be free to attend, however, tickets must be booked in advance. Tickets will be available to book online from 28th August.

Entertainment for Kids at County Library Tallaght, Dublin

Enjoy events in the Junior Library at County Library Tallaght, including the Summer Stars presentation from 5 – 6pm, Jack Flash from 6 – 7pm and aerial entertainment from 7 – 8pm.

Irish Stories & Histories – Folklore & Heroes, Westmeath

Art workshops with Crane Bird at Mary Street, Mullingar. Children and young people will choose a story with figures from a famous myth or legend from Irish folklore and mythology. They will be given an explanation of how it works the transfer technique and they will create an art project onto a fabric item. All supplies will be provided for these projects.

There are two workshops to choose from 5pm or 6:30pm, please book your place with Aida (by text message to 085 187 5458) for attending the workshops. Half an hour break between workshops to allow for complete sanitising of the area and equipment.

Screen on the Green: Outdoor Movie Screening, Galway

An exciting outdoor event presented by LARC (Loughrea Arts Recreation and Culture). The evening’s movie selection, chosen by the people of Loughrea, will be aired on a state of the art digital projector at The Green in Loughrea.

Social distancing measures and sanitising stations will be in place. Bring your own camping chairs and blankets for a fun and cosy evening.

A Night At The Museum: Exhibitions, Events and Behind-The-Scenes Tours, Kerry

Enjoy exciting events for all the family at Kerry County Museum, from behind-the-scenes explorations, special exhibitions and medieval living history.

Songs of Inspiration with Sinead Mullally, Cavan

Sinead will take you on a journey of hope at Bear Essentials, Tirnawannagh, Bawnboy, Co. Cavan, with an evening of traditional ballads and folk songs, in association with Cavan Heritage.

Time: 7pm – 9pm

It’s In Our Hands…, Sligo

Join Blue Raincoat Theatre Company at The Factory, Lower Quay Street, Sligo and be a part of a large-scale community art project that brings together the Sligo community, a little paint and a lot of fun! The finished artwork will be hung within the community as a representation of the unity amongst us.

Taiscéal: An Animated Story (Online event)

Artist Ana Colomer and scéalaí Niall de Búrca explore each other’s styles and body of work, coming together to produce this animated tale. An original story, written and narrated by Niall, comes to life through Ana’s watercolour and digital animation.
